Found this nice little hue test, it’s been floating around for a while so you might have seen it before. I scored a perfect 0, which is quite surprising with this really bad notebook screen. Try it out and tell me how you did.

A Couple Of Great Sourches For Simple JavaScripts

I have been looking around the internet today, to find some lightweight JavaScripts for different web projects I’m working on. And I came across some really cool sites with some very basic scripts. The first one is leigeber.com with a handful of useful scripts and they’re as lightweight as they come.

Next we have The Filament guys with their nice tricks for jQuery. Great inspiration and you are allowed to use at least some of the scripts, if you give them credit for it.

And then there is jQuery itself. One of my favorite places since I started learning JavaScript not too long ago. Great tutorials and examples plus it’s one of the best, designer friendly JavaScript libraries there is.

On a sidenote I just got the Probloggerbook today. And I just started on it, but it seems pretty good. And I just started using twitter too - So follow me and tweet to me or something?

Web Apps - Free Or Paid?

I having been thinking a lot about how to monetize web applications lately as I doing some work in that area. And I found that it’s one of the things I personally struggle with. Getting that part of the plan done is, for me, a tough job.

It’s all free baby!

Giving your web application away for free might not making you a lot of money from users but it will give you a better chance of building a huge audience and then making money through advertising. This will be the obvious choice of social web applications and content rich sites.

Pro memberships

The flickr model - giving limited access for free and giving the users the option of buying access to new, useful features for a small fee ($24.99 on flickr).
This has the advantage of making your site accessible to everyone while still making money directly from you power users. The trick with this one is to give enough away for free to get members and still bringing enough extra to the table for your pro members.

Everybody pays!

A lot of new wordpress plugins/themes are trying this approach to making money. If you are confident that your web application is really making somebody’s day easier this can be the best choice for you.

Now this is actually a reminder to myself. Most of this is pretty obvious but I always forget to think about it before I start up new projects.

Do Your Client Understand What He Is Paying For?

Here’s a little story from my work day. One of our clients emailed me and asked if I could put his phone number online on the new site we just made for him. So I put it up and told him how he could himself get into the back end(We only do CMS solutions) if he wanted to change anything else. His response surprised me. He didn’t know that he could change everything(well, almost) on the site himself.

I was the one creating this site and I know that I told him at least 2 times before. But telling them and making them understand it is two different things.

He was of course happily surprised but it’s still not a completely good thing. What if it had been the other way around. What if he thought he could just call us and get us to make all future changes without having to pay for them?

I guess what I’m trying to say is that it is important to make sure your client knows exactly what they are paying for. It will save you a lot of trouble.

I just went to amazon and bought two books. first the problogger book and the 4-Hour Workweek.

I bought the problogger book because Darren is a great writer and, in my opinion, an expert on blogging for a living. I have no plans to make a living from blogging but I do make a living from making websites and partly from running my own websites. My plan is to at some point in the future to work full time on my own websites. I hope the book will give me some pointers to making this happen. Read more about the book.

The 4-Hour Workweek was really just to save some money on shipping but I have heard a great deal about this book and I decided to see for myself what all the fuss is about. Also hoping to get some useful tips from this one.

I will of course give a full review of both books when I have finished reading them.
